Our History

Faith's beginnings were in 1976 when six families from Douglas County who attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Littleton, met with their Pastor, Rev. Jares Brown.

This meeting resulted in their starting to hold services a St. Philip in the Field Episcopal Church near Sedalia.

The first service was held at the Douglas County Senior Citizen's Center on September 11, 1983.

The congregation grew and on April 15, 1984, with 123 baptized members, celebrated the organizational day of Faith Lutheran Church.

The congregation outgrew the Senior Center, and moved to the gym at Cantril School in March 1985.

In March, 1987 ground was broken at 303 Ridge Road for our present church building.

The first phase did not include a sanctuary. The decision was made during the design phase that the cross tower would remain the focal point no matter what changes occurred to the building itself. The first worship service was held October 4, 1987 in the new church facility.

April 1988 was the start of two Sunday morning services, now at 340 baptized members. The support staff was added in April of 1990 in areas of worship, music, youth, and services.

October 1991, now at 520 baptized members, a Needs Analysis Committee was formed to support the building of a sanctuary. In November 1992, with almost 600 baptized members, an entry service for the new sanctuary was held. In April 1993 a dedication service was held for the new sanctuary, narthex, remodeled kitchen, nursery, and senior high classroom.

In 1983 Pastor Dwight Stengaard was called to be the Pastor/Developer of a mission church in Castle Rock.

November 1994, the congregation was at over 700 baptized members. February 1996 Pastor Dwight accepted a call to Rapid City, South Dakota. March 1997 an addition was built for new Sunday school rooms using space under the sanctuary and narthex.

A call committee was chosen in April 1996. Pastor Michael M. Knauff accepted their call to be Faith's Pastor and was installed September 21, 1997.
