YOUNG ADULT FELLOWSHIP
Faith has several young adults (18 to 25) who are home for the summer and want to have a social life that doesn’t have all the negative behaviors attached to it.  Hopefully we’ll have a newly hired youth director who will be able to organize some events where highschool classmate can reconnect and new members can find new friends.  Our first event will be White Water Rafting at Buena Vista.
We have 10 slots reserved for our young adults.  We’ll be camping out under the stars, enjoying rafting as well as evening campfires.  The cost is $100.00 and the sign up sheet is on the youth bulletin board please contact Pr. Mike if you plan on attending.

Rekindle your Awareness of God’s Loving Purpose for Giving…….

In the next few weeks, you should be receiving some important information in the mail regarding the 2008 stewardship program.

The stewardship team cordially invites you to participate in mid-week Bible study sessions and other activities geared toward helping you to evaluate how God’s gift of grace relates to your stewardship commitment.
As you may already be aware (especially if you attended the April 13th budget meeting and the April 20th congregational meeting), our church is faced with many financial challenges.  However, that is just one segment of the stewardship commitment.

The stewardship sessions will shed light on some areas of the Christian response to God’s love as we faithfully commit our time, talent and our treasure.  All of these things were never ours to begin with…..they were always God’s.  When we share these gifts with others, we are only giving back in some small measure what God has given us.

At what age does giving start?  It’s probably different for each individual, but you can learn more about it at almost any age.  The 2008 stewardship program consists of lesson plans for all age groups to be used during midweek soup/study session.  It is intended to be used for family activities that can be done at midweek sessions and/or can be part of Christian education in the home.

HELP WANTED!

FLY needs leaders, chaperones, and “snack ladies.”  Adults that will help our youth with fundraising like– recycling aluminum cans, selling equal exchange coffee, recycling print cartridges.  We need adults to chaperone the ski trip, and urban servant plunge weekend.  We need adults to help with Sunday night bible studies and fellowship events.  We need adults willing to provide snacks for our gatherings.
Pastor Mike is no longer running the senior high youth program due to an overbooked work schedule.  We have great youth at Faith and would hate to see FLY not happen.  We have youth willing to lead but they need guidance and support from adults.  Is God asking you to “stand in the gap” until Faith’s staffing vacancies can be filled?  In big ways and little ways our youth need you.  Please consider contacting Shawna Wise our youth team leader and asking her “how can I help?”

Men’s Group to Introduce Career and College Sharing Programs for Youth

The Men’s Group is planning on introducing two new pilot programs for our high school youth in August of this year.  These programs are described below.

The Career Sharing Program

This program will offer our high school youth the opportunity to meet with adults in our congregation who can be of help to them in making plans for their lives after high school graduation.  We believe this may be very helpful to our high school youth in better understanding their career options, preparing for college or choosing an occupation to pursue.

As a pilot program, in February we requested career information from our Men’s Group and their wives.  All who responded were willing to share their career knowledge with our youth and from this response we have a good start at developing a list of occupations for our youth to choose from.  However, we need your help to expand this list, so if you are willing to share your career experience with our youth please contact us (contact information is provided below).

In August, Pastor Mike will start offering this program to our youth in Confirmation and FLY meetings.  It will be up to our youth to choose their occupations of interest and then the Men’s Group will set up the interchange with those adults having the appropriate career experience.

The plan is to hold very informal, information-sharing sessions between the adult(s) and youth. One or more of the youth can request an interchange and possibly more than one of our adults may be asked to partake in any given session.  Pastor Mike and the Men’s Group will provide some guidance to both the adults and youth prior to each session.  Parents are encouraged to attend.

If you’d like to learn more about this project and/or volunteer to share your career experience with our youth, please contact either Pastor Mike or Pastor Joe at 303-688-3476, or Tom Brown at 303-238-5747.

The College Sharing Program

This program will offer our high school youth the opportunity to meet with our older youth currently in college or recent college graduates.  This will be an information-sharing interchange where our high school youth can ask questions about college preparations and college life in general.  Any number of youth can make a request for this offering and parents are encouraged to attend.

In the next few weeks we will be contacting our college youth to see if they will be interested in participating in such a session and if you know of someone who would make a good candidate to share their college experiences with our youth, please contact Brad Geiger at 303-660-9308.

ALUMINUM CAN DRIVE
We would like to thank the Buck Family, for graciously offering to take on the aluminum can duties. There are two places you may deposit your cans—in the marked box in the church kitchen, and in the marked container next to our dumpster. Proceeds will help fund FLY activities.

Lutheran World  Relief coffee and tea sales !
Faith Lutheran Youth (FLY) will be selling Equal Exchange Fair Trade Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa products after services on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. Proceeds help support activities for our Junior High and High School Youth programs. Your continued support of our Youth ministries is sincerely appreciated!

Want to Save Money on Cartridges and Help Us Raise More Funds?

FLY has launched a recycling and fundraising program with the help of an inkjet recycling company called Empties4Cash. Here is what it is all about:
The empty inkjet cartridges that we usually throw away as trash can be recycled and remanufactured.
Bring those empty cartridges to church and put them in one of our collection boxes.
FLY gets paid up to $4.00 for each empty inkjet cartridge that has a print head, regardless of the brand or type.

We need OEM inkjet cartridges that have print heads from all of the following brands of printers: HP, Lexmark, Xerox, Compaq, Samsung, Kodak, Canon, or Apple.

No Epson print cartridges can be accepted, since the Epson cartridges have no print head.

Remember:
Put the cartridge in the original box that you would have thrown away after it has been replaced to keep it safe from damages and spills, or a Ziploc bag.

NEW!!!  We now have postage-paid bags, which you can take home, to work, or give to friends.  Just pop an empty ink cartridge or two into the bag, seal & put into the mail.  FLY’s account number is on each bag, and Fly immediately gets credit for it.  The collection box will still be at church (by the mailboxes in the narthex), and bags are now located there too.

Want to Save Money on Cartridges and Help Us Raise More Funds?

InkSmiie.com sells replacements cartridges that can save consumers up to 80% over brand name cartridges. Their 5% Rebate Program allows consumers to have 5% of their purchases donated to FLY who is a participating E4C member.

Thank you in advance for helping us raise funds for our youth program and keeping millions of pounds of cartridges out of our landfills.
