We
are a Stephen Ministry congregation. Stephen Ministry is an
outreach
ministry that equips laypersons to provide distinctively Christian,
one-on-one
care giving. The Stephen Ministry headquarters in St. Louis, MO
describes
Stephen Ministry as “Christ caring for
people through people.”
We welcome everyone in the community to take advantage
of this
ministry.
If you, or someone you know, are going through a difficult life
challenge
or a crisis, please consider Stephen Ministry.

Searching for a new ministry opportunity in our congregation?
Stephen Ministry is our congregation’s one-to-one caring
ministry. Being a Stephen Ministry has a cost, but also has great
rewards. Right now we’re looking for members who are willing to
pay the…
Commitment
Of
Self and
Time
…and become Stephen Ministers, remembering that the blessing will
outweigh the cost.
Our Congregation needs more
Stephen Ministers. It is important to train more people
for this important ministry of the church, so that we can continue to
offer trained ministers to work one-to-one with someone in a caring
relationship. Please prayerfully consider this ministry. Please
call Cindy Buschagen @ 303-688-3476 or email her at
discipleship@faithcrco.org for more information.
The Stephen Series logo
tells the story of a care receiver’s journey from brokenness to
wholeness through the transforming power of the cross of Jesus.
It serves as a simple reminder that it is not the Stephen Minister who
restores a person to wholeness. Rather, it is only through the
cross of Jesus that a person can be made whole.
Can
I be a Stephen Minister?
WHO
can
be a Stephen Minister? Any member
of
the congregation with a caring heart and willingness to learn can
become
a Stephen Minister.
WHAT
does
a Stephen Minister do? Stephen
Ministers
provide a caring one-to-one Christian relationship with an individual
of
the same gender undergoing stress or experiencing a crisis.
WHERE
do
the individuals whom Stephen Ministers work with come from?
“Care
receivers” come from the congregation and from within the Douglas
County
community.
WHEN
does
the Stephen Ministry care giving happen? A
Stephen Minister meets once per week, in person or by phone, with an
individual
for a 3- to 9-month period of time.
HOW
do I
learn to be a Stephen Minister? You
become a Stephen Minister by completing 50 hours of training regarding
listening skills, crisis dynamics, and Christian care giving. You
remain a Stephen Minister by participating in ongoing supervisory
sessions
and continuing education sessions.
Stephen
Ministers make a big difference in people’s lives by providing a safe
listener
for the person in crisis while encouraging the person in crisis to
utilize
their faith for the crisis they have experienced. A Stephen
Minister
will spend the first 6 months of their 2-year commitment receiving
training.
The following 1 ½ year is spent meeting with “care receivers”
and
attending supervision meetings and education sessions. Over the
two-year
time commitment Stephen Ministers generally have 3 care receiver
relationships.
We
know that being a Stephen Minister is a big commitment. It should
be said that most Stephen Ministers feel they receive more than they
give.
Please feel free to talk with any our Stephen Ministry team about their
experiences.
