Council is seeking member input regarding our budget
proposal. Discussions will take place during Adult Forum on Sunday mornings. We hope to have a draft budget based on your feedback available for review by Sunday, May 11th.

Rekindle your Awareness of God’s Loving Purpose for Giving…….

In the next few weeks, you should be receiving some important information in the mail regarding the 2008 stewardship program.

The stewardship team cordially invites you to participate in mid-week Bible study sessions and other activities geared toward helping you to evaluate how God’s gift of grace relates to your stewardship commitment.

As you may already be aware (especially if you attended the April 13th budget meeting and the April 20th congregational meeting), our church is faced with many financial challenges.  However, that is just one segment of the stewardship commitment.

The stewardship sessions will shed light on some areas of the Christian response to God’s love as we faithfully commit our time, talent and our treasure.  All of these things were never ours to begin with…..they were always God’s.  When we share these gifts with others, we are only giving back in some small measure what God has given us.

At what age does giving start?  It’s probably different for each individual, but you can learn more about it at almost any age.  The 2008 stewardship program consists of lesson plans for all age groups to be used during midweek soup/study session.  It is intended to be used for family activities that can be done at midweek sessions and/or can be part of Christian education in the home.

Music for a Mission Continues

Those who attended Music for a Mission I left with smiles on their faces, and exclaiming that “we need to do this again!”  The good news is that we listened to your request.  In partnership with Christ, Holy Cross, and Holy Shepherd Lutheran churches, Faith Lutheran Church of Castle Rock announces Music for a Mission II.  This benefit concert supports Project Grace, its mission of outreach to the devastated Gulf Coast region of Mississippi. This event will be held Sunday, May 18 at Christ Lutheran Church, located at 8997 South Broadway in Highlands Ranch.  The concert begins at 6:30 pm, featuring musicians from Faith, Christ, Holy Shepherd and Holy Cross Lutheran churches.  Talented musicians from these congregations will provide a fine venue of music including instrumental and vocal ensembles, and solo performances.

There will be a dessert intermission, and a freewill offering will help provide materials for the projects undertaken by the volunteers who participate in the ongoing mission trips.  A small percentage of the money may be used to offset costs incurred by those who participate in the mission trips.  Proceeds from the concert will also impact Grace Lutheran Church in Long Beach. MS.  Their Good Samaritan Fund enables the church to assist families by paying for medical expenses, car repairs, rent payments, etc. They also buy Wal-Mart cards and grocery store vouchers with that money. Plan to make the short trip to Highlands Ranch on the evening of May 18, and you will be in for a musical treat that will put a smile on your face.  If you need additional information, contact Faith’s Minister of Discipleship, Cindy Buschagen, at 303-688-3476 or by email (discipleship@faithcrco.org). .

Quilt Group News – The quilt group will be continuing to meet on Monday mornings in the library.  The main project for the winter and spring of 2008 will be small quilts to be included in the foster care packages being put together by the Sunday School for Lutheran Family Services.

The quilt group leader hopes to be working on quilts on the beach in Melbourne Beach.  This does not mean that the group is leaderless and without direction.  There is still an adequate supply of material and instructions so that anyone can jump in and help with the service project above.

Thanks to all the dedicated quilters who worked on this year’s projects:

SENIOR GET-TOGETHER

The Senior Get-Together is a monthly gathering of between 24-38 folks, who gather for food and fellowship.  We meet on the third Tuesday of each month, usually beginning  at noon.  On most occasions , there is a program offered after the potluck meal.  This month, however, DO NOT cook, seniors.  Leave the cooking to the chefs at Pegasus Restaurant.

On Tuesday, May 20th, take your appetite to one of Faith’s favorite places to dine,Pegasus is located at 313 Jerry Street.  There you’ll join with all the other seniors who will be glad they took the time from their traveling, grandchildren, golf, tennis, and other adventures to spend time enjoying one another’s company.   Pegasis has a broad menu choice, so you’ll be certain to find something to suit your taste buds.

Please sign up on the Fellowship Bulletin Board, as we will have to make reservations.
Reservation deadline is Sunday, May 18th.

ARE YOU A RECYCLER?

We have had some positive responses to the plea for others to join in the efforts to recycle the congregation’s output” of cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, aluminum and steel. Mike Papula has joined the recyclers, and has been taking some of our “stuff” to places that accept recycling. Nancy Eakins informed us that there are recycling bins by McDonald’s (on Wolfensberger), so that those of you who join in our efforts can take the items there, and you don’t have to add Faith’s load to your own curbside re cycling. With the addition of Mike, we now have the beginnings of a Recycling Team. Thanks to the Poux, Wise and Stark families for your efforts to keep us “green”.
Please consider joining the “Rotational Recyclers” so that four to five families, each taking a turn, during one week of each month, can recycle these items. Thanks to those of you who purposely take time to find the proper boxes, located in the kitchen, to the right of the sink. That’s where you can put your glass, plastic, aluminum and steel. Cindy Buschagen’s environmental mission is to not throw away anything that can be recycled. If you’re committed to the environment, contact Cindy Buschagen, Associate in Ministry at 303/688-3476, or by email (serviceministries@faithcrco.org).

PARKING

With everyone coming back from vacations and more first time visitors attending every Sunday, we would like to remind you of a few parking basics:
  • The parking spaces in front of the entrance are for Handicap parking only. (signs & new paint coming soon).
  • Please save visitor parking spaces for our guests.
  • Try to avoid bringing multiple vehicles to services.
  • Please don’t park in the grass on the East side of the lot. This is our septic drain field and the tiles underneath are easily damaged by vehicles running over them. Additional space is available on the South side of the playground.
Thanks for your help in making sure there is a space for everyone!

Nursery Information
With the increased attendance at our worship service, we have noted an increase in the number of children placed in the nursery. At this time, we request that only children, ages 5 and under be registered for nursery care. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in making our nursery one of quality care.
DURING PRESCHOOL HOURS, (9:00 AM-3:15 PM) ALL PEOPLE ENTERING THE BUILDING NEED TO SIGN-IN IN    THE CHURCH OFFICE, AND GET A VISITOR TAG.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION IN THIS MATTER.
Building Use Schedule
Did you know that our building is in use an average of 17 hours a day, 7 days a week! Because we have more groups requesting to use our space than we have room to accommodate all of them, we ask that if you would like to have your meeting or event here at the church, please check first with our Business Manager, Lisa Smotherman, to see if space is available before publicizing it. Space may be reserved by completing a Facilities Use Request form available in the office or here onthe Web page on the "Contact Us" page or the links below., and turning it in to Lisa as soon as possible. The space is not reserved until final approval of your written request is given by our Business Manager and requests are granted on a first come first serve basis. Calendars are posted on the Property bulletin board in the narthex, and also on the bulletin board in the church office. Calendars are updated several times a month but because our schedule can change almost on a daily basis, you still need to verify that space is still available before scheduling any activities. Thanks for your cooperation.

Campbell's Soup Labels & Box Tops for Education
Both Campbell's soup labels and General Mills Box Tops for Education logos can be clipped and saved to benefit others. Here at Faith Lutheran, they are collected for the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Rock Point, Arizona. How can they benefit this mission? The answer to that is provided by Nancy Eakins as helpful information to our members:

"The Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission, rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, is a community seeing to recognize and help meet the educational, health, social and spiritual needs of the Navajo people in partner-ship with the Navajo."

Box Tops for Education
· Cut out the logo, rather than the entire box top
· Bring them to the box at the Service Table in the narthex.
· For each box top, the Mission receives one dime toward its work with Navajo school children.

Campbell's Soup Labels
· Cut the label so the Campbell's logo and variety of soup are clearly visible.
· Place labels in the box provided at the Service table in the narthex.

YOUTH GROUP FUNDRAISERS
ALUMINUM CAN RECYCLING....Thanks to the Buck Family, who have volunteered to coordinate the recycling of aluminum cans. There are two places you may deposit your cans—in the marked box in the church kitchen, and in the marked container next to our dumpster. Proceeds will help fund FLY activities.
Lutheran World Relief coffee and tea sales !
Faith Lutheran Youth (FLY) will be selling Equal Exchange Fair Trade Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa products after services on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. Proceeds help support activities for our Junior High and High School Youth programs. Your continued support of our Youth ministries is sincerely appreciated!

 YOUTH FUNDRAISER
FLY has launched a recycling and fundraising program with the help of an inkjet recycling company called Empties4Cash. Here is what it is all about:
The empty inkjet cartridges that we usually throw away as trash can be recycled and remanufactured.
Bring those empty cartridges to church and put them in one of our collection boxes.
FLY gets paid up to $4.00 for each empty inkjet cartridge that has a print head, regardless of the brand or type.

We need OEM inkjet cartridges that have print heads from all of the following brands of printers: HP, Lexmark, Xerox, Compaq, Samsung, Kodak, Canon, or Apple.

No Epson print cartridges can be accepted, since the Epson cartridges have no print head.

Remember:
Put the cartridge in the original box that you would have thrown away after it has been replaced to keep it safe from damages and spills, or a Ziploc bag.

Want to Save Money on Cartridges and Help Us Raise More Funds?

InkSmile.com sells replacements cartridges that can save consumers up to 80% over brand name cartridges. Their 5% Rebate Program allows consumers to have 5% of their purchases donated to FLY who is a participating E4C member.

Thank you in advance for helping us raise funds for our youth program and keeping millions of pounds of cartridges out of our landfills.
